Court extends the Hearing for the 18 missing supporters of the National Unity Platform-NUP

KAMPALA-UGANDA: The defendants of the Petitioners for the 18 missing supporters of the National Unity Platform-NUP have been given four days to respond to all the evidence presented to Court by the state.

Speaking to the media after the court session Yesterday 24th April 2024 George Musisi-Lawyer for the Petitioners said that the state continues to deny hold the missing persons in their Cells say that they’re still investigating, on the other hand saying that their investigation found none of the missing people was arrested by the state.

Council George Musisi added that the investigators are biased because the affidavits are from the State Police officers who led teams allegedly to investigate the disappearances of the people they are demanding.

“The same denial is repeated, on one hand they say they’re still investigating, on the other hand they say they led investigations and found that these people were never arrested by the state. That already shows the bias of the investigators because these affidavits are from the State Police officers who led teams allegedly to investigate the disappearances of the people we are demanding and whereas they keep on all affidavits saying our investigation is still ongoing” said Lawyer George Musisi.

Rt. Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in the Parliament Uganda said that they keep pursuing this matter legally in the courts of law, Politically in Parliament and elsewhere as it’s important that they don’t lose sight of this issue.

“Ugandans move on very easily and yet our people are saying at least give us the remains of our beloved ones let’s bury them, it’s important that we don’t lose sight of this issue. We will keep pursuing this matter politically in Parliament elsewhere and legally in the courts of law” said Joel Ssenyonyi.

Meanwhile the High Court has further extended the hearing date for the 18 missing persons to 3rd May this Year, as the court prepares to give further guidance on its hearing.
