Kabale Northern Division Council Donates Braille Paper to Visually Impaired Students at Hornby High School.


KABALE: The Northern Division Chairperson Isaac Mucunguzi Rushoga Yesterday conveyed a sum of Shillings. 300,000 as contribution to the procurement of Braille paper for the visually impaired students at Hornby High School.

The Chairperson who doubles as a member of the Hornby High School Board of Governors said the donation was a contribution from Northern Division, and the plan was to motivate the visually impaired students in their studies.

Addressing the remaining S.6 and S.4 students of the Braille class at the school Isaac Rushoga asked the students to work harder and always remember that the entire Northern Division local Government speaks one voice when it comes to supporting them.

Receiving the donation, Allan Muhwezi, the Speaker of the school Council, said appreciated the Northern Division Council, in particular the Political head who delivered the donation.

In appreciation to Chairman Rushoga and the Northern Division Council, the Hornby High School Head teacher Aturebire George Tumusiime said that the donated funds would help to procure at least six reams of Braille paper which are enough to enable them cover at least 50% of second slatted to begins on 28th May 2024.

The Head teacher notified the Chairman that the School of the Braille lacks mobility tools used by the visually impaired students, known as “White canes”.

“If your Council could also support us with White canes, we would very much appreciate it,” said Aturebire George. 

Hornby High School is located at Rugarama Hill in Northern Division Kabale Municipality was founded in 1923 and the school’s Braille Class opened in 1969, with only four students at primary level. 

Currently the Braille School has an enrollment of up to 50 students.
