KISORO: As Christians in the Catholic faith within Mutorele denary under Kabala Diocese embark on a journey to Namugongo for pilgrimage this year, they have been encouraged to support, pray and care for the needy people.
This was revealed on Friday by Tadeo Nzaraba, the Mutorele denary pilgrimage team leader while glagging of the Pilgrims travel to Namugongo for the Martyrs Day Celebration scheduled for 3rd June, 2024.
Tadeo said that the believers under their Catholic faith should always provide Water, Food and Prayers to the Poor people in their communities as a sign of their endless love to their Almighty.
He confirmed to this reporter that over 100 Christians from Mutorele Denary, were registered to join the pilgrimage travel, which they are to embark on Saturday and will last for 14 days.
Ponsiano Mukiza and Sofia Kambabazi said that to celebrate the martyrs reflects an image of their heart felt relationship to Jesus Christ and are ready to follow his footsteps to the end.
They further called upon their fellows to always participate in the pilgrimage journey to Namugongo to remember the few who sacrificed their lives for their Religion, if they are to win more blessings from God.
Martyrs Day Celebration is an annual celebration held on 3rd June; the feast of the Uganda Martyrs as decreed by the act of canonization in 1964 by the Universal Catholic Church.
RUBANDA: Authorities in Rubanda District have flagged off the Distribution of more roofing materials and Twin Desks for Primary Schools.
In a function held at the Rubanda District Headquarters on Friday a total of 1,654 Pre-painted iron sheets with their 191 ridges and 202 nails, plus 668 Twin Desks were flagged off and will be distributed in selected 56 Primary Schools this financial year.
While addressing the Head teachers from benefitting Primary Schools the Rubanda district LC V Chairman Hon. Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba revealed that the items were procured by the District in addition to the 1,232 pre-painted iron sheets distributed in the 2021/2022 financial year, and 380 in the 2022/2023 FY.
Kasyaba further revealed that more 1,800 iron sheets will be distributed to schools in the next financial year.
The Chairman says that previously, the District was distributing unpainted iron sheets to the Schools but since 2021, they have embarked on distributing pre-painted iron sheets because they are durable and they also smarten the buildings raised by Parent Teachers Associations.
After assuming Rubanda District Chairmanship, Mr. Kasayaba also revealed that they had distributed 2,258 twin Desks by May 2024, and they would distribute more than 1000 in the next financial year.
“These Twin Desks can accommodate three pupils at minimum and the plan is to provide enough and convenient sitting space, while we completely eliminate cases of pupils sitting down on the ground during School lessons.” Kasyaba said.
The Rubanda District Education Officer Francis Serunuuni said that they had procured the roofing materials and twin desks using additional funding that was secured with help from the State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi who is also the Rubanda East Mp.
Mr. Serunuuni appealed to the Head teachers, School Management Committees and PTAs not to keep the iron sheets in stores but rather use them as soon as possible.
“After two weeks, we are going to make a follow up and find out how you have utilized these iron sheets.”
Meanwhile, the District Education Secretary, who is also the Bubaare Town Council LC.5 Councilor Mr. Obed Mutatiina Kitabutuka outlined a number of construction projects that the Rubanda District Local Government had implemented since 2021, as well as those under implementation and those in the pipeline.
These included construction of V.I.P latrines at various schools, Construction of Classroom blocks and dormitories at each secondary school, among others.
The function was witnessed by a number of dignitaries including; Rubanda District Asst. RDC Hillary Bindeeba, LC.V Vice Chairperson Prossy Kesafari, District Internal Security Officer Micheal Mwijukye and Muko Sub county LC.V Councilor Vincent Kibuye, among others.
KANUNGU: The territorial police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 25 whose decomposing body was discovered hanged in a tree.
The deceased has been identified as Domiyira Kyasimire a house wife and resident of Rwerere village, Rusoroza parish, Kihiihi sub county in Kanungu district.
It’s alleged that on Sunday Last week, at Rwerere cell, the Deceased who is a wife to Ngurusi Ezra disappeared from her home without her husband’s knowledge.
She was there after seen yesterday by one Bahati anna hanged in a tree in her garden from which she informed the area Chairperson Asimwe Sulaiman who in turn made a report at Kihihi police station.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed to the Media that the police officers were able to visit and document the scene of crime and the body lowered from the rope, taken to the mortuary for postmortem.
Maate added that the husband to the deceased went on run for unknown reasons and a suicide incident by strangulation was Registered at Kihiihi Police station on CRB 195/2024.
KABALE: The founder of the Hallelujah Counseling Center, Hon. Enid Origumisiriza Atuheire has called upon the government to put more effort in supporting the boy child.
Origumisiriza also known as Aunt Enid made the call on Thursday during the 2024 International Boy’s Day commemoration at the Hallelujah Day Care Center and Nursery School in Kabale Municipality, Kabale District.
Hon. Enid Origumisiriza, also an aspiring woman Mp Kabale district said that the government has put much emphasis on empowering a girl child, leaving boys behind something that puts the future generation at stake.
She emphasized the importance of loving and supporting a boy child, as they are an integral part of the country’s future, believing that by investing in the future fathers and Husbands can help to create a balanced and equitable society.
“These are the future fathers and Husbands, and it’s our responsibility as a country to come out and support them. I kindly request our good government to empower a boy child as it has done to a girl child” said Enid Origumisiriza.
Muhwezi Robert, a young boy and a resident of Kabahangara cell, Karubanda Ward, speaking on behalf of other young boys, extended his heartfelt appreciation to Aunt Enid Origumusiriza for preparing their Day.

RUKIGA: Onion Farmers in Rukiga District have been explored to practice ecological farming which contributes to maintaining Soil Health and reduces environmental Impact.
This was revealed by the Managing Director of Transform Abafrica Product Limited, Mr. Barham Twineamasiko on Thursday, while engaging farmers in a one-day Onion Farming workshop held at Buhangizi archdeaconry Church in Rukiga District.
Twineamasiko told farmers to adopt new environmentally friendly Organic farming in a way of maintaining their soil health and also minimizes costs in Farming.
He charged farmers to start using Transform Organic Manure, saying that it helps in increasing yields across all types of plants which can as well be applied to all kinds of soils.
Barham Twineamasiko further warned farmers to stop rushing to using factory made chemical inputs that causes soil infertility ahead of them posing a serious health risk to farmers and crop consumers.
Mpumwera Twine Hope, an onion farmer and a resident of Mutoojo village, Kigara parish in Kamwezi Sub-County expressed her worry over the relentless sunshine intervals being experienced that may lead to a significant loss during the harvest times.
She explained how she has tried everything possible to see her onion garden reach the harvesting stage, now standing at risk of losing everything due to the harsh weather conditions.
Barugahare Obed, Tukwasibwe Margaret, and Tugumisirze Jennifer expressed their appreciation to the Transform Abafrica Product Limited for descending to their local areas to empower them with new farming techniques.

KAMPALA UGANDA: The Uganda’s Cabinet has resolved to increase the fees for the individuals changing particulars on the National Identity Card from 50,000 to 300,000 Ugandan shillings.
This was announced by the NRM Vice Chairperson Western Region and Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance Hon Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, while addressing the members of the press at Uganda Media Center in Kampala.
Also a Legislator representing people from Kinkizi East Constituency in Kanungu District Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said that the new fees will take effect after the completion of mass enrollment for new IDs and the replacement of old ones.
The Minister added that the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) realized that there are many individuals who come for service who present reasons which border on abuse or even fraud to an extent.
“There has been a fee of 50,000 Ugx for change of Particulars on the National IDs but through NIRA it has realized that there are many Ugandans or many who come for the same service, who present reasons which border on abuse or even fraud to an extent. So we have now suggested that the fee for change of Particulars be increased from 50, 000 to 300,000 shillings” said Min. Chris Baryomunsi.
The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is set to hold the second mass enrollment as well as mass renewal of National Identification Cards, an exercise slated to start on June 1 this year up to September 30, 2025.
KAMPALA-UGANDA: The Police force have identified and launched a manhunt for an employee of the grain company who was recently seen in a 0.34 minutes video, hacking a client at a cash office in Nateete.
According to the police, the suspect on Run has been identified as Ashraf Kiiza, an employee at Bashir Grain Millers in Nateete Ku Taano on the outskirts of Kampala.
In a video footage captured on CCTV camera on Monday at around 8 PM Kiiza attacked a business man one Sam Turyamuhaki with a machete and a hammer which he walked in with, packed in a sack.
Kiiza was seen placing a sack on the waiting chair as Sam (the Victim) was counting money unbothered from which Kiiza (the attacker) picked a machete from the sack and ordered Sam Turyamuhaki to surrender the money he was counting.
Turyamuhaki attempted to grab a panga from Ashraf Kiiza but missed it in the process from which Kiiza descended on him, and hacked him on the head attracting the intervention of other people who overpowered him and eventually escaped.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that Turyamuhaki sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the nearby health facility for quick medical attention.
Owoyesigyire added that Kiiza fled and is currently on the run and that the police have deployed all the possible means to have Kiiza arrested to face charges of attempted murder, and aggravated robbery.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson further urges anybody with information on the whereabouts of Kiiza Ashiraf to forward it to the police.
RUKUNGIRI: The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of two people who allegedly fought and one was Boxed to death while the other lynched by mob.
The deceased has been identified as Julius Beinomugisha Kato 40 and Nelson Niwatuha aka Ndyagabondo 25, both casual laborers and residents of Muyanje Cell, Bwambara Parish/ sub county in Rukungiri district.
It’s alleged that at around 06:30 Pm on Tuesday Nelson Niwatuha had a contract to dig a garden for one Nsheija within Muyanje cell around Omukayembe Trading Centre and contacted Julius Beinomugisha Kato to help him finish the work.
In the morning hours of the following day, they started digging while taking alcohol and even after finishing the work, continued drinking until in the evening, when Julius demanded payment for the work done.
Instead Nelson told him, “Your pay is the money we have been drinking” something that annoyed Julius and they started fighting. shortly, Julius was punched, fell down, and died instantly.
The local residents out of annoyance, ganged up on Nelson in a course of revenge, before he was rescued and rushed to Bwambara Health Centre III where he succumbed from his injuries.
The Kigezi police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, said that the Police was informed by the area Chairperson, and they in turn visited, examined and documented the scene of crime.
Maate added that the police conducted postmortem examinations on both bodies and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
He added that the inquiries are ongoing and those who were involved in the mob action will be brought to book with a double murder by assault case and Mob respectively registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station on CRB: 566/2024.
